Work and its challenges: how to deal with them!

06-Oct-2011

Most of us have to work  in order to pay our bills etc., but going to work  is not just about getting paid, even though this is really important. Going to work gives us an opportunity to feel useful, learn new skills and realize abilities we didn't know we had.  In addition, we get to me meet and work with some really great people.  But, sadly this doesn't always happen  for many -  going to work  becomes a real challenge that can  cause anxiety, depression, loss of confidence and a real sense of hopelessness.

Some of the examples of how this might occur are described as:

the work  is wonderful, enjoyable and achievable and  if it was just the job itself  - confidence would reign. But,  the people  are so unpleasant, unhelpful and domineering, they make life so unpleasant  that going to work is a chore to get through

or

the people are terrific, so  helpful  and  lovely to be with, but the work is boring.

or

the  job is  what I want and the people are nice enough but, I feel so useless ,  everyone seems so much better than me -  I’m a failure.

Some are in dead end jobs but, daren’t leave because of the money.    Others are in a job  that  they feel  is too much for them  but, are too scared to admit it and look for something they could do.  Or, they are too frightened to ask for help but, instead feel stressed and anxious for most of the time. Others don't know how to deal with difficult people and just feel   bullied

The negative  impact of  work  undermines   physical  and emotional health,  which invariably  influences others to feel  the same as well.    The atmosphere  becomes very depressing  and no one  seems  to  care.

So what can you do?

If any of these examples are what you are dealing with right now and you are feeling stuck, make an appointment and get some professional help and support.

Remember, when we try to deal with our own problems we give ourselves the same answers over and over again, whereas a professional counsellor can give you an entirely  different perspective and things might not seem so bad after all.
